Tragedy struck an Augusta family Friday night, when their 2-year-old toddler was struck by a vehicle and killed while playing on the sidewalk.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the 1100 block of Peters Road sometime after 9:00 p.m. after Aura Demoni Moody was hit.

"Upon arrival, deputies determined a 2-year-old toddler was playing on the sidewalk with her family when a female driver drove up on the sidewalk, running over the toddler," said Sergeant Walter McNeil Jr.

Aura was rushed to Wellstar MCG where she was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:22 p.m.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said an autopsy will be performed.

"Charges are pending until the investigation is complete," said McNeil.

The name of the driver has not been released yet.

Augusta Toddler Killed Two Days after Another Pedestrian Death

The death of 2-year-old Aura Moody came just 2 days after a pedestrian was killed while trying to cross Deans Bridge Road.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office said 52-year-old James King of Hephzibah was struck when he darted into traffic near Barton Chapel Road.

King was taken to Doctors Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It's not known if any charges were filed against the driver.
