Aiken County Schools Will Have 2-Hour Delay When Students Return Next Week
Aiken County Schools resume Monday after their scheduled two-week fall break, but the start time has been delayed for Monday and Tuesday.
School district officials say all schools in the district will have a two-hour delayed schedule for the first two days back in the classroom to help increase visibility as buses, students who walk and others travel to school for the first time since Hurricane Helene struck the area September 27. Some roads may still have fallen trees and debris as a result of the storm. Keep in mind some sidewalks may be blocked in some areas and visibility could be limited due to debris.
“We understand this change may be challenging for many families and appreciate your patience an cooperation. Crews have made significant progress clearing debris, and we will continue to evaluate road safety for early morning travel. We will make a decision regarding start times for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday by noon on Tuesday,” according to a statement from the Aiken County Public School District.
Hammond Hill Students
“In evaluating roadway conditions, the Hammond Hill neighborhood remains a concern. We are currently exploring transportation options for students residing in that neighborhood and will communicate with impacted families over the coming days once a determination is made,” according to a school district announcement.
