Richmond County Traffic Signals Have All Been Repaired
Richmond County traffic signals have not only been repaired, the work was finished ahead of schedule, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Hurricane Helene damaged signal heads at more than 100 intersections in the county when the storm blew through the area September 27.
Richmond County Traffic Signals Could Be Out Where Power Hasn’t Been Restored
At the time, DOT officials estimated it would take about 3 weeks to complete all the necessary repairs, but thanks to extra crews that were sent to Augusta, the work was completed 10 days ahead of schedule.
“Without everyone coming together and working as one throughout the state, we wouldn’t be able to complete a task of this magnitude this quickly,” said District Engineer Corbett Reynolds.
Signal crews from five of Georgia DOTs seven districts assisted with repairs, in addition to contracted crews.
At the beginning of the day Tuesday, DOT officials said 35 signals in Richmond County still needed to be repaired. By the end of the day, all the work had been completed.
“We appreciate everybody in Augusta-Richmond County being patient with us. We also appreciate the assistance we got from local law enforcement to keep our crews safe,” said Reynolds.
Drivers need to be aware that some signals are still not operating due to power loss. Once power is restored to those locations, the signals will become operational again.
Remember, treat the intersection as a four-way stop if the traffic signal is not working.
