A teacher at Grovetown Middle School was arrested by law enforcement officials from another state last week.

Parents were notified that 7th grade teacher Kimberly Barnes had been arrested and charged with Transaction Card Theft in connection with an alleged incident in South Carolina 2 years ago.

Accusations Against Barnes

The 29-year-old Barnes is accused of making purchases with a credit card she allegedly obtained from a teacher at JET Middle School in Edgefield County in 2022.  She was arrested Friday on an outstanding warrant and is out of jail on bond.

Columbia County School District officials were made aware of the arrest the same day.

They sent a letter to parents notifying them of the situation, adding that a substitute teacher will be in the classroom for the time being.
