City Worker Shot and Killed in Augusta
An Augusta worker was shot and killed this morning and the search is on for the killer.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office got the call just before 10:00 a.m. and responded to the 1200 block of 13th Avenue at MLK Jr. Boulevard. They found a male, whose name has not been released, with at least two gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. William McCarty says a search is underway f0r 66 year old Smitty Melton of Augusta. He’s black, six feet tall and weighs 210 pounds. He was seen leaving the area in a black Chevy S10 pickup. Melton should be considered armed and dangerous.
