High Speed Train Could Be Making Its Way To Augusta For Another Travel Option
All aboard! Augusta could soon be next on board for a high-speed rail. Amtrak is considering a rail link between Augusta and Atlanta at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Just last week on December 8, The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) announced that it has awarded $8.2 billion for 10 passenger rail projects across the country.
Augusta could certainly be a part of that… this is how!
North Carolina is projected to receive 7 new rail routes across the state. One of those would be a joint project between North Carolina and Georgia – Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Atlanta’s airport to be exact. This rail line would also add stops at the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, Athens, Augusta, and then Atlanta.
What will the travel time be?
Well it depends if the train is electric or ran on diesel. If the train is eclectic the total ride time will be 2 hours. If the train is diesel, it was take 2 hours and 45 minutes. The train will travel faster than 125 miles per hour.
