There Are Rules When It Comes To The Masters Green Jacket
You knew there were, there are rules when it comes to the Masters Green Jacket.
Earlier this week, the 2023 Masters winner, Jon Rahm was on the SUBPAR Golf podcast with Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz. Rahm said that there were papers he had to sign following his Masters win regarding the do’s and don’ts when it comes to what he can and can’t do when wearing his Green Jacket.
SOME RULES
He confessed to not remembering all of them, but he remembered a few things. The most casual you can appear in the jacket is golf clothes. Long pants and a collared golf shirt. He cannot wear the jacket with jeans or shorts.
He must inform the Club anytime he’s planning to wear the jacket for public appearances. He’s allowed to wear the jacket for promotional purposes in the year following his win.
He also mentioned that he’s not allowed to be seen having any alcohol while wearing the jacket.
He said, he was sure that there were more rules, he just couldn’t remember anymore. It’s not something we’re going to have to worry about.
Being Nervous
Rahm also confessed that he was the most nervous when he learned that there would be a Green Jacket ceremony rehearsal. He rehearsed with some of the Augusta National members.
When the defending winner, in this case Scottie Scheffler, put the Jacket on him, he WAS NOT to shake Scheffler’s hand first. He was to shake the hand of Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley first, then Scottie.
For the record, Rahm wore the Jacket while appearing on the podcast.
Rahm also mentioned that he has already started thinking about next year’s Masters Club dinner, and that he will engage the help of noted Chef Jose Andres.
