Augusta University to sell Twin Gables
Augusta University announced plans today to sell Twin Gables, home to the university’s presidents on Milledge Road since 1984.
The Medical College of Georgia had purchased the over 14,000 square foot, 9-bedroom home to also serve as event space for visiting dignitaries, alumni, faculty, students and community supporters.
The home, which was built in 1910, underwent some structural improvements last year, but AU President Dr. Brooks Keel says it’s not fiscally responsible for the state to bear the significant costs required to further renovate and repair the historic structure.
Twin Gables has been home to 5 university presidents. Keel says he and his wife will relocate to a private residence in Augusta.
The University System of Georgia is handling the sale of the Twin Gables property.
