Part Of Atomic Road in Aiken Will Be Closed For Months
Part of Atomic Road in Aiken County will be closed for several months, starting in January.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close and detour part of the road for much needed bridge repairs.
DOT officials say a detour route has been put in place for the repairs that are scheduled to begin January 6, 2025.
Part of Atomic Road Will Be Closed at Bridge Sites
Drivers need to be aware that both the northbound and southbound sides of Atomic
Road will be closed at the bridge sites during construction.
Atomic Road will be open to local traffic only, except at the bridge sites. SCDOT has posted a map of the detour route.
SCDOT crews will continue to work throughout the holiday season. Pay special attention to crews in work zones, stay alert and move over to ensure their safety.

- At the intersection of SC 302 & Banks Mill Road Southeast, a left turn protected arrow was installed for the Southbound side.
- US 1 and Sudlow Lake Road intersection now has an offset turn lane to enhance driver safety
- Pedestrian crosswalk flashers and buttons were installed on Ascauga Lake Road to increase visibility
