Schools In Richmond County Have New Re-Opening Date Following Hurricane Helene
Schools in Richmond County won’t re-open on Monday, October 7, as previously scheduled.
Richmond County School Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw announced today that students will return to school now on Wednesday, October 16.
Today, Georgia Power said plans to have 95% of Augusta’s power restored by Saturday, October 5, have now been pushed back. The projected date is now October 14.
“This week we focused on our families, homes, and neighbors in need in the wake of the hurricane that impacted every community member. As we work towards returning to a state of normalcy, safety and accessibility for our staff and students is our highest priority,” said Bradshaw.
Officials say more time is needed to allow all schools to open with power, water, internet and personnel. Bus routes still need to be cleared as well.
Schools in Richmond County Won’t Have Asynchronous Learning Day
The Richmond County school system will not observe the scheduled PowerUp Asynchronous Learning Day on October 11, as scheduled.
“We know that many of you have concerns about lost instruction time. Right now, we ask that you focus on the safety of your families, and rest assured that we are considering several options that prioritize a smooth transition back to the classroom,” said Bradshaw.
RCSS Nutrition Services to Help the Conmunity
RCSS Nutrition Services is working with local agencies to identify food distribution sites to serve the community while schools and offices are closed. More information on dates, times, and locations will be available before Monday, October 7.
