School Threats in Aiken County Result in 11-year-old’s Arrest
School threats in Aiken County were posted on social media over the weekend, launching an investigation on Sunday.
The Aiken Department of Public Safety says officials there were notified of the posts, which threatened violence at several middle schools in North Augusta and Aiken.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office joined Aiken Public Safety in the investigation, which quickly led them to the 11-year-old.
The juvenile has been charged with multiple counts of Student Threats and Threatening a Public Official. The student has been referred to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
It’s not known where the student attends school.
“We would like to thank everyone for promptly alerting school officials and law enforcement about the post. We believe there is no continued threat to these schools as the result of this investigation,” according to Aiken Public Safety’s Facebook post today.
They added, “Aiken Department of Public Safety remains in constant communication and partnership with the Aiken County School District to bring a swift resolution when made aware of these types of incidents to ensure a safe learning environment for the students, teachers and staff.”
School Threats and Violence Ongoing in Area Schools
It was just last week that a bomb threat was reported at East Aiken School of the Arts. The Columbia County School District has reported more than a dozen threats of violence since school began in August.
Students have been caught with weapons at Cross Creek and Butler High Schools in Richmond County in the last month.
During the second week of school, a shooting was reported outside the Lucy C. Laney High School football stadium, sending fans and players running. The game was suspended. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
