An assassination attempt has been confirmed today by the FBI near former President Donald Trump's West Palm Beach golf club in Florida around 1:30 pm.

The golf course had been partially shut down while Trump was playing. Secret Service agents were a few holes ahead of him when they reportedly noticed a person with an AK-style firearm.

Agents said they saw the suspect push the muzzle of the gun through the fence, and that's when they fired shots at him. Agents recovered an AK-style firearm at the scene and a backpack.

The suspect took off in an SUV and was apprehended a short time later in a nearby Martin County. No information has been released about the suspect yet.

Officials confirmed that Trump was safe. No injuries were reported.

Trump was in Florida this weekend following a West Coast swing that included a rally Friday night in Las Vegas

Trump sent out an email shortly thereafter saying," There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!"

Assassination Attempt Today Not the First on Trump

Today's incident comes roughly two months after Trump was shot during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. A bullet grazed his ear during the outdoor rally and the suspect was shot and killed during the attempted assassination.
