The Laney-Westside football game tonight came to an abrupt halt when shots were fired in the third quarter of the first game of the season outside the Laney High School football stadium.

Few details have been released, but some attending the game said shots were heard toward the end of the third quarter and appeared to be coming from outside the stadium.

Richmond County deputies arrived as some fans were trying to leave the stadium as players, coaches and others were staying put, trying to take cover. The stadium was locked down.

Laney-Westside Football Game Cancelled

A car was reportedly driving up and down the street outside the stadium with at least one person firing shots into the air.

The game was cancelled shortly thereafter.

There were no initial reports of any injuries.

No other information has been released yet. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office hasn't commented yet.
