Greenbrier High School Student Killed in Early Morning Wreck: Teen’s Identity Released.
A Greenbrier High School student was killed in a single-vehicle accident overnight in Columbia County. The teen’s identity has been released.
Major Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says 15-year-old Gordon Carmichael of Evans lost control of the jeep he was driving during the night and struck a tree. The accident was discovered around 4:30 a.m. Carmichael was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident was reported near a round-a-bout on Riverwood Parkway in the Riverwood subdivision.
The sheriff’s office says the boys mother had called around 5:50 am to report that both her vehicle and her son were missing.
The teen, who was driving illegally, would have turned 16 on October 1.

According to school officials, the teen was reportedly a sophomore at Greenbrier High School.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
