Comcast Customers Can’t Watch the Braves Now
Comcast customers can’t watch the Atlanta Braves anymore on Bally Sports as of midnight today, undoubtedly leading to frustration for fans.
Comcast customers are reminded that the agreement between Comcast/Xfinity and Diamond Sports Group, which owns 15 Bally Sports Regional Networks, including Atlanta, expired early this morning. That means you’ll need to utilize a streaming service now to watch the Braves.
Now when Comcast customers tune their televisions to Bally Sports channels, they’ll get the following message:
“The owner of Bally Sports is in bankruptcy proceedings, and we have offered them multiple options to continue to carry their networks. They have declined each one. We have been very flexible with Diamond Sports Group, providing them with an extension on the Bally Sports Regional Networks last fall and a unilateral right to extend the term for another year, which they have opted to not exercise. We’d like to continue carrying their networks, but they have declined multiple offers and now we no longer have the rights to this programming.”
Statement From Diamond Sports Hoping for a Resolution
“It’s disappointing that Comcast rejected a proposed extension that would have kept our channels on the air and that Comcast indicated that it intends to pull the signals, preventing fans from watching their favorite local teams. Comcast has refused to engage in substantive discussions despite Diamond offering terms similar to those reached with much larger distributors of ours. We are a fan-first company and will continue to seek and agreement with Comcast to restore broadcasts, and at this critical juncture for Diamond, we hope that Comcast will recognize the important and mutually beneficial role Diamond and RSNs play in the media ecosystem.”
Bally Sports is available throughout Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of North Carolina. Providers are AT&T U-verse, DirectTV, DIRECTV STREAM, Cox, FuboTV, and Spectrum.
Comcast Will Issue Monthly Credit
In announcing today that the Atlanta Braves can no longer be viewed on Bally Sports, Comcast said the company will proactively begin crediting customers for the costs associated with them. Most customers will see an $8 to $10 per month credit on their statements.
