Westmont Elementary students will have a brand new building this school year, but it won't be open when classes begin on Monday.

The old Westmont Elementary building was torn down at the end of the 2021-2022 school year, making way for the new state-of-the-art facility that can house up to 900 students. The plan was to have the building ready for the new school year that begins Monday, August 5.

Westmont Elementary students were supposed to attend open house Thursday at the new building, but earlier this week school officials announced it would be delayed until Sunday.

Today, Columbia County School District officials announced that plan has changed again. Crews are still working to put the finishing touches on the new building and it won't be ready in time.

Westmont Elementary Students Will Attend Classes Next Week at the Performing Arts Center

School officials announced today that Westmont Elementary students will have classes next week at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center (PAC) in Evans, or parents can opt for their child to Learn from Home during that time.

"During this time, students will be engaged in exciting instructional activities, and other memorable experiences to enrich their learning. We will continue to bring you updates on our progress and any necessary changes to instruction," said Westmont Principal Angie Young.

Grab-and-go breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge, daily, for students during the temporary placement at the PAC.

School buses will transport students via their assigned routes to the PAC, and a car line will be established for pick-up and drop-off.

The school's nurse will be on-site at the PAC to help with medication distribution.

Young said a Learn from Home option will be provided during the temporary placement and laptops will be available for those who choose to take that option.

"We ask that all parents please take a few moments to complete a survey indicating which learning option you prefer. To complete the survey, Click Here. We understand these changes may inconvenience some, and we thank you for your continued patience and positivity," said Young.

Open House Will Be Held at the PAC

Open House for Westmont Elementary students will now be held this Sunday, August 4, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center. Students will be able to meet their teacher and parents will be given important information for the school year.
