A Grovetown High School student has been arrested in connection with a video that surfaced on social media Wednesday.

Principal Andrew Young sent a letter to parents today explaining that Columbia County School District Police were contacted after administrators were made aware of the video, where a student was seen holding a firearm.

"The video is believed to have been taken in the bathroom at the school. The student was located off campus and was arrested," said Young.

Young said officials thank those who immediately reported the post to the proper authorities to investigate.

Columbia County School District officials have investigated numerous incidents involving students who face charges for offenses that include felony drug possession, terroristic threats and acts, or aggravated assault.

At least 22 incidents involving nearly every middle school and high school in the county had been reported between August 22 and September 23.

At a recent forum held at Grovetown High School, officials discussed plans to install an classroom audio enhancement system in every Columbia County school. Employees would be able to activate the school's emergency notification system if necessary.
