Westmont Elementary School Move-In Date Still Unknown
Westmont Elementary School students and teachers were looking forward to starting the new school year in their brand new building in Columbia County, but it’s still not finished.
Instead of starting the new school year August 5 in the new building on Oakley Pirkle Road, Columbia County school district officials had to quickly make alternate arrangements for instruction until the building is ready for occupancy.
Westmont Elementary School Students Will Continue Instruction at the PAC
Since school began Monday, Westmont Elementary School students have been attending classes at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) in Evans. Parents could also opt for the Learn from Home option as well.
Today, Columbia County school officials said the final inspection on the new building could take place early next week, according to the contractor. Due to the inclement weather impacting the area, officials said there’s still no official move-in date yet.
That means students will continue to have school at the PAC next week, Monday, August 12-Thursday, August 15.
“Students can continue learning in-person at the PAC or learn from home. Self-contained students will remain in their current classrooms. School buses will continue to transport students and grab-and-go breakfast and lunch will also be provided at no cost again next week. Additionally, before and after school care will continue at the PAC,” according to information sent to Westmont families from Principal Angie Young.
For those students participating in the Learn from Home option, laptops have been made available during the temporary placement.
