Technology Will Allow Atlanta School Buses To Change Stop Lights
Apparently, there’s now technology that will allow school buses to change stop lights.
Why is that necessary you might ask? With that technology, buses will not only get students to school on time. This technology can also provide student safety and provide environmental benefits.
This technology is allowing school buses in the Fulton County School System to request green light priority at 62 traffic signals along their routes. There’s data that shows a “clear and measurable reduction” in travel time.
Reports are that student behavior on the buses has improved and in some ways, the technology addresses the school bus driver shortage that close to 90% of school districts are experiencing.
There are apparently also tangible savings when it comes to fuel. Fulton County uses around 25,000 gallons of fuel a week. With the cost of fuel, the district says the savings have been significant.
Also, the sooner the bus gets to school, there’s opportunity for the student to actually get to the lunch room on time and have that first meal of the day before starting the school day.
