A Grovetown day care worker has been charged with Simple Assault following an incident Tuesday at Next Generation Learning Center on Old Wrightsboro Road.

Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens says police were called by a parent who said their child was "visibly upset and inconsolable" at the time of pickup Tuesday afternoon.

The parent asked the day care to view video surveillance of the days' events.  Kitchens said the business manager allowed officers to view the footage.

"In reviewing the recordings, it was discovered an employee, 26-year-old Lataya Regine-Monae Davis of Grovetown approached a 1-year-old toddler on the playground and pushed the child in his torso with her foot, at which time he fell and landed in a seated position," said Kitchens.

The child was standing on the playground with several other children at the time of the incident, according to Kitchens.

Davis was arrested and charged with 1 count of Simple Battery and was taken to the Columbia County Detention Center.

The Investigation Continues

Kitchens said this is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information concerning this incident or others is asked to contact the Grovetown Police Department at (706) 863-1212.
