An Augusta woman was arrested on several drug charges following a traffic stop in Burke County over the weekend.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office says deputies stopped a vehicle on Highway 25 near Old Millen Highway when they discovered the driver had outstanding warrants through another law enforcement agency.

The deputy that approached the vehicle said he detected the smell of marijuana, then noticed a glass smoking pipe in the cup holder of the car.

"During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies located approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine, 12 grams of liquid methamphetamine contained inside numerous syringes, and 3 firearms," according to a news release from the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

The Augusta woman arrested was identified as Alisha Wheeler of Augusta.  Wheeler, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody.

  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Hydrocodone
  • Possession of Oxycodone
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime

"The Sheriff's Office remains committed to safeguarding our communities by actively pursuing illegal guns and drugs," according to a news release.
