Suspect in Deadly Shooting on Washington Road in Custody
The suspect in the February 28 deadly shooting in the 2800 block of Washington Road is now in custody.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says 38-year-old John Lowden Jr. of the 1700 block of Deer Chase Lane in Augusta was found dead from a gunshot wound early that morning.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene at 2:24 am to a report of shots fired not far from the intersection with Berckmans Road.
Deputies found Lowden in the eastbound right lane. Bowen pronounced him dead at 3:05 am.
Investigators announced they were looking for 32-year-old Robert Ward of Augusta in connection with the deadly shooting.
Ward Taken into Custody Today
Ward was taken into custody today in Beech Island by the United States Marshal’s Southeastern Task Force with assistance from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
Ward is currently in the Aiken County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Richmond County, where he will be charged with Lowden’s murder.
