A North Augusta man was sentenced Thursday to 43 years in prison for shooting and killing a man there in 2021.

An Aiken County jury found 26-year-old Dallan Timothy Thorstenson guilty of killing 42-year-old Gary Pixley at his home on Thurmond Street on August 23, 2021.

What Happened August 23, 2021

Thorstenson said he thought Pixley was an intruder and shot him in self-defense, but investigators said they had enough evidence from witnesses to suggest otherwise, adding there were too many inconsistencies with his story.

When North Augusta Public Safety officers responded to a report of a home invasion and shooting, they found Pixley and a dog had been shot at least one time.  Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

On Thursday, Thorstenson was found guilty of Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.  Judge Michael Nettles sentenced him to 43 years in prison.

Second Judicial Circuit Assistant Solicitor Ashley Hammack said Thursday's sentencing provides closure for the family and the community.
