Augusta Man in Custody in Connection with Body Found in Shallow Grave Monday
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection to a body that was found in a shallow grave Monday in the 800 block of Heard Avenue in Augusta.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office said Monday the cause of the victim’s death was suspicious after exhuming the body from a shallow grave behind the home. The body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Lab for identification.
Today, Richmond County investigators say a suspect is in custody. They arrested 30-year-old Colby Jovan Smith of the 800 block of Heard Avenue and charged him with Murder and Concealing the Death of Another Person. Smith is being held without bond in the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
“The investigation is ongoing with no further information available at this time,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
