An Augusta toddler who was found unresponsive in a bathtub at an apartment in the 700 block of Cross Tree Court July 24 in Richmond County died two days later.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen identified the child as two-year-old Rayshon Roberts of the 1800 block of Fayetteville Drive. After an initial investigation, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office charged 20-year-old Danashia McClennon with Cruelty to Children in the first degree.

A further investigation since Roberts' death led authorities to charge McClennon Tuesday with Murder.

Augusta Toddler's Death Remains Under Investigation

Rayshon Roberts died at Wellstar MCG on July 26 at 11:36 pm, according to Bowen.

An autopsy was scheduled and the cause of the child's death is still under investigation.

Firefighters were called to the apartment on Cross Tree Court where they found McClennon trying to administer CPR to Rayshon. She reportedly told authorities she had left him alone in the bathtub for about 10 minutes and found him face down in the water when she returned.

Authorities say there were some conflicting reports on what led up to the child's death. The case is still under investigation.
