Shopping On Black Friday
More of us want to be in a store, shopping on Black Friday.
Black Friday Numbers
A recent poll has found that 95% of us plan on participating in Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday events this year. A third plan to shop both online and in stores. The research shows that 43% of us missed the chaos of Black Friday the last couple of years and we’re ready to get back into the fray.
Here are some of the numbers from the research. 63% of us consider in-person Black Friday shopping to be a tradition. Gen Z respondents said it was the “immediate fulfillment” that was the primary driver to shop these events in person. 81% are looking forward to it.
42% said in-store Black Friday shopping is more important to them now, since the pandemic, including 49% of the male respondents.
Despite inflation, nearly a third, 31% expect to spend more money on Black Friday AND Cyber Monday than in previous years. Three years ago, pre-pandemic, the average person $440. This year, we’re prepared to spend over $550.
The motivators for in-store shopping this year:
- Instant Gratification – 46%
- Being able to secure items ahead of time – 42%
- Better customer experience in-store than online – 39%
- Better deals in-store than online – 37%
- Not having to fight over items with other people – 37%
- Not having to wait in a long line of people – 37%
- Having better sales or deals in person – 36%
- Having it organized better – 36%
- Curbside shopping – 28%
It did seem that before the pandemic, the “romance” of Black Friday had been wearing thin. Research was showing fewer and fewer shoppers were opting to head for the stores and more and more were using their computers. It would appear, at least for the time being, that the pandemic has re-energized the idea of getting up early, getting your cup of coffee and heading for your local brick and mortar location to get your holiday shopping season started.
