New Streaming Service Coming… From Chick-fil-A?
When you think of Chick-fil-A, you probably think chicken, or maybe you think about the cows they brilliantly use for advertising. What you probably don’t think about is a streaming service. But it seems the chain is working to create a new streaming service to launch later this year.
New Streaming Service In The Works
According to Variety, Chick-fil-A has been working with Hollywood production companies and studios to create content for a new streaming service. The idea is to create family-friendly, mostly unscripted original shows. Apparently the fast food chain is also looking to license and acquire content for the service as well.
Deadline broke the news yesterday on their website with exclusive details. Some of the shows that could be on deck for the service could include a family-friendly gameshow from the company behind NBC’s The Wall, Glassman Media, and Michael Sugar’s Sugar23, the company that brought Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and more. Based on the information Deadline received, the gameshow has a 10-episode order.
The plan seems to have the service launch later this year, and to hopefully include scripted projects and animation.
It appears the guy behind Top Gear and The X Factor, Brian Gibson, holds the reigns to lead programming and has been talking with various producers.
Chick-fil-A Entertainment
The world of producing entertainment isn’t completely new to Chick-fil-A. While the company has over 3,000 restaurants in the United States, they have produced entertainment content for their website, including short, animated films. In addition, Chick-fil-A has also branched out to create children’s puzzles and games under its Pennycake brand.
Chick-fil-A wouldn’t be the only “non-entertainment” company to get into producing content and joining the streaming world. Brands like Lyft and Airbnb have produced shows like Lucky Lyft and Gay Chorus Deep South that aired on MTV.
The Internet’s Reaction
There don’t seem to be any more details surrounding the launch of the new service from the beloved fast food chain known for its chicken sandwich, but it doesn’t stop the internet from speculating. Many people seem surprised by the news of Chick-fil-A launching a streaming service. Some have poked fun at the idea and shared their thoughts on X.
There have even been recommendations for the name of the service, with one user commenting, “They should call it Chik-flix”. Another asked if it would be called “Flick-fil-A”. Other users shared memes and thoughts about the service and whether it would be available on Sundays, since Chick-fil-A restaurants aren’t open then. And others questioned the company and their financial choices, when there are already many streaming services, some of which are struggling as it is.
It will be interesting to see how this develops.
