Officer-Involved Shooting in Burke County Results in One Arrest
An officer-involved shooting Sunday night in Burke County has resulted in one arrest with the suspect currently undergoing treatment.
Deputies from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a large party on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Keysville.
Colonel Jimmy Wylds says deputies arrived around 9:45 pm and started to disperse the crowd when they spotted a male driving recklessly in the area. Wylds said he “was reportedly laying drag.”
“As deputies approached to address the situation, the unidentified individual accelerated and drove directly towards one of the deputies who was directing traffic,” said Wylds. A deputy fired shots at the car as it sped away.
The suspect has since been identified as 27-year-old Ray Terrell Streetman Jr. of Augusta, who was injured in the shooting.
“The gunshot wound occurred during the initial confrontation when a deputy, fearing for the safety of others, discharged a single round from the driver’s side of Streetman’s vehicle to neutralize the threat. Fortunately, no deputies or civilians were injured during the altercation,” said Wylds.
Streetman left the scene, but was dropped off by an unidentified person at an Emergency Medical Assistance station at 10:08 pm, suffering from a gunshot wound to his left side.
Wylds said Streetman was transported to Wellstar MCG in Augusta where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Officer-Involved Shooting Results in Multiple Charges
Streetman is facing two charges of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, as well as charges of Fleeing and Attempting to Elude law enforcement.
The investigation is continuing.
