New Emergency Alert System Coming to Columbia County
A new emergency alert system is set to go into effect soon to replace the current “Code Red” emergency notification.
“Hyper-Reach is completely free and is customizable. Those registered for the service will get weather and community alerts on your cell phone or email. It’s your choice whether you want voice or text emergency alerts,” according to a news release from Columbia County.
You can register at https://signup.hyper-reach.com/hyper_reach/sign_up_page_2/?d=113127.
It only takes a couple of minutes to register. You can opt in or out of severe weather alerts, and even customize the types of alerts you want to receive, such as tornadoes, flooding, etc.
“With this one registration, every phone in the family can be signed up. No need for multiple accounts. Each individual phone can opt for personalized types and levels of alerts,” according to Columbia County officials.
A reminder that Code Red will be phased out in the weeks ahead, so it’s important to register for Hyper-Reach now.
Just like Code Red, Hyper-Reach is a high-speed mass notification system that sends address-specific alerts concerning time-sensitive information that could impact homes and businesses in the area.
How Hyper-Reach Works
- New emergency alert system means registration is required.
- Registering your address, zip code, name, cell phone and/or email address with the Community Alerts option will allow your cellular phone, email, and/or TDD to be notified for local emergencies and community alerts as well.
- Hyper-Reach will automatically call all landline numbers for Community Alerts, but will only call landlines for Weather Alerts if you sign them up. You need to sign up for any cell number.
- Make sure you list the correct street address so that any Emergency Alerts affecting only your immediate area will reach you.
- You may receive a Hyper-Reach alert for certain situations including missing persons, water service interruptions, severe weather situations and other important information.
