North Augusta Teacher of the Year Jailed for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor
A North Augusta Teacher-of-the Year is behind bars on multiple counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
Charges were recently brought against 58-year-old Charles Richard Wilson after images of minors engaged in sexual activity were found on his home computer. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigators with the Aiken Department of Public Safety made the arrest May 22. Investigators with the Attorney General’s Office and Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, also members of the ICAC Task Force, assisted with the investigation.
Investigators got a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led them to Wilson.
“Investigators state Wilson distributed files of child sexual abuse material,” according to a news release from the Office of Attorney General Alan Wilson.
The North Augusta teacher-of-the-year reference has been removed from the Aiken County School District’s website since Wilson’s recent arrest.
An earlier post of Wilson’s says he started at the school as a Social Studies teacher in March of 2023. During the current school year, Wilson had been teaching Human Geography, including an honors course. He was recently named Teacher-of-the-Year at North Augusta High School. His arrest came just days before the school year ends on May 30 in Aiken County.
Wilson has been charged by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office with 5 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. It’s a felony charge that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 2 to 10 years in jail.
