Sunday’s shooting Victim Identified Near Lake Olmstead
Sunday’s shooting victim near Lake Olmstead has been identified.
Richmond County Deputies were called to the 2100 block of C Street to a report of shots fired.
The shooting victim has been identified as 22-year-old Jaleen Xavier Sumpter of Augusta. Bowen said Sumpter was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:45 pm. A second victim was shot in the leg and was taken to Wellstar MCG for treatment.
Coroner Mark Bowen said an autopsy has been scheduled.
Arrest Made in Evans Teen’s Recent Murder
The shooting victim in Sunday’s murder was identified as 14-year-old Anthony Harrison. He was shot and killed last week at the Cedarwood Apartment complex in Richmond County and now the alleged shooter is in custody.
Richmond County investigators announced days later they were looking for 15-year-old Darryaun Tanksley in connection with Harrison’s death.
Investigators confirmed Sunday that Tanksley is now in custody charged with murder. Authorities say he will be tried as an adult.
Harrison’s family and friends gathered Saturday for a balloon release in his honor at Josey High School’s football stadium.
