Jamilla Smith Death Investigation Leads to Another Arrest
T
The Jamilla Smith death investigation in Aiken County continues with investigators announcing a third arrest in the case today.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Clyde James Hendley of Bath was taken into custody this morning at his home on Front Street. He’s been charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder.
Hendley is the third person charged in connection with the disappearance and death of Jamilla Shanae Smith in December, 2023. She called 911 December 2 from her home on Jackson Road, telling authorities her former boyfriend, Daniel Harmon, had broken into her house and was chasing her with his vehicle.
At one point, dispatchers could hear Smith pleading with Harmon to not hurt her.
Smith’s mother reported her missing the following day, and both Smith and Harmon were nowhere to be found.
On December 5, deputies found a vehicle matching the description of Harmon’s parked in front of a home on Carpentersville Road in North Augusta. Harmon was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Violence and suspicions of Kidnapping.
While in custody, Harmon was charged with Smith’s murder several days later, though her body has never been found.
Second Arrest in Smith’s Disappearance and Murder
Harmon’s cousin, 35-year-old Bryan Alexander Hampton Jr., was arrested in late April and charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder for his role in Smith’s death.
