The Jamilla Smith murder case in Aiken County has had a new development, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Michael Hunt announced today that 35-year-old Bryan Alexander Hampton Jr. of Augusta is wanted for Accessory after the fact to Murder in connection with Smith's death last year.

The 30-year-old Smith was last seen December 2, 2023 outside her home in Jackson, South Carolina.  She called 911 that day to report she was trying to get away from her former boyfriend, 34-year-old Daniel Harmon.  Warrants from the Sheriff's Office said Harmon ran over Smith with his car, based on blood samples collected from his vehicle.  During the 911 call, Smith was heard screaming, pleading for Harmon not to hurt her.

Even though Smith had not been found, authorities announced in late December the case had become a murder investigation.

They initially took Harmon into custody December 5 on Carpentersville Road on an outstanding warrant charging him with Domestic Violence 2nd Degree.  He was later charged with Kidnapping in connection with Smith's disappearance.  On December 23, Harmon was charged with Smith's murder and he was held without bond in the Aiken County Detention Center.  Smith's body has never been found.
