Augusta Baby Kidnapped During Car Theft
An Augusta baby kidnapped during a car theft last night in Richmond County was found safe and sound a short time later.
Some scary moments for the mother who told deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office that she was unloading her car in the 2100 block of A Street just after 9 pm when a man jumped in her car and took off.
The woman’s 2-week-old infant was in the car when the suspect took off.
Deputies began a search of the area and found the car, with the child inside, about 15 minutes later near Lake Olmstead.
Officials confirmed the baby had not been harmed and was returned to the mother.
The suspect abandoned the vehicle and took off. The search for the suspect continues.
