Augusta Baby Positive for Fentanyl, Mom and Boyfriend Arrested
Augusta baby positive for fentanyl Saturday has led to charges against his mother and her live-in boyfriend.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the baby was taken to Augusta University Medical Center late Saturday morning after becoming ill at home.
37-year-old Rosa Solis-Garcia told hospital staff her son was in bed with her when she noticed his skin getting pale and lips turning blue. Solis-Garcia said her boyfriend, 41-year-old Thomas Wright, arrived and started CPR while EMS was called.
While at the hospital, Solis-Garcia said her son had been holding a $20 bill that had been in her purse when he became ill.
According to the incident report, Wright admitted he uses drugs in the home and investigators say they found fentanyl in Solis-Garcia’s purse along with a straw that may have been laced with the drug in addition to the money.
A warrant for their arrest accuses the pair of allowing the baby to play with the money, which reportedly was contaminated with fentanyl.

- Solis-Garcia was charged with Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree
- Solis-Garcia is also being held for the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement
A Child Died in Aiken County in September After Ingesting Fentanyl and Meth
Carolyn Paige Scott was charged with Murder/Homicide by Child Abuse last month after her 3-year-old daughter ingested fentanyl and meth in their home in Jackson, South Carolina in September.
3-year-old Riley Scott was found unresponsive in the home and was taken to Children’s Hospital of Georgia where she died. An autopsy confirmed Riley’s death was due to fentanyl and methamphetamine in her system.
Aiken County authorities said Scott had two other children in the home, ages 4 and 8. An investigation revealed there was no running water in the home, and deputies reported finding uncapped syringes and drugs in the home.
In addition to the murder charge, Scott was also charged with two counts of Children/Legal Custodian, Unlawful Neglect of a Child or Helpless Person.
