2022 Fatal Accident in Columbia County Results in Prison Term
A Washington, Georgia man has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars in connection with a fatal accident on I-20 in Columbia County in 2022.
42-year-old Michael Gene Glenn was determined to be the at-fault driver in the 3 vehicle crash October 20 on I-20 near Appling-Harlem Road.
What Led to the Accident
An investigation into the 2022 fatal accident by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office revealed Glenn was distracted and failed to see two vehicles stopped in front of him. Glenn’s car hit the 2016 Honda Accord in front of him, causing that car to hit the vehicle in front of him.
Four occupants of the Honda were taken to an area hospital for treatment. One of the backseat passengers, 24-year-old Mardrez Jackson, also of Washington, Georgia, was pronounced dead.
Glenn was charged with Homicide by Vehicle, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, and Following Too Closely.
Glenn was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years behind bars. He will have to serve 7 years, followed by 8 years on probation.
