An inmate has died at the Aiken County Detention Center.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office says the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been called to conduct an investigation into the death of 34-year-old Tony Muldrow of Effingham, as is standard procedure.

Muldrow was arrested in Florence, South Carolina in late December in connection with a deadly shooting on Squire Street in Aiken on Christmas eve, 2023.

Muldrow was accused of shooting and killing a man as the two argued outside a home there.

While in custody at the Aiken County Detention Center this morning, authorities say Muldrow suffered a medical emergency and EMS was called at 5:22 am.  Muldrow was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers where he was pronounced dead at 6:19 am.

An autopsy will be performed in Newberry Monday to determine the cause of his death.

Officials say there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Muldrow's death.
