Jail Worker Charged With Having Sexual Relationship with Inmate
A contract jail worker at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center was charged today with having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate and is now being held without bond.
An investigation began February 2 when Aramark Food Services contacted the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office about one of its employees possibly having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.
41-year-old Romenia Williams worked in the kitchen at the Detention Center, but was employed by Aramark Food Services.
A news release from the Sheriff’s Office says Williams was questioned Friday about the allegations and admitted to being in a sexual relationship with an inmate while she was working.
“Investigators also interviewed the inmate who confirmed he was in an ongoing relationship with Williams,” according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
Williams was arrested today and charged with one count of Sexual Assault by Persons with Supervisory or Disciplinary Authority and one count of Sodomy.
Williams is being held in the Detention Center.
