Greenwich Drive Murder in Aiken Solved With North Augusta Man’s Arrest
A Greenwich Drive murder in Aiken in May has been solved with the arrest Monday of an Aiken County man.
The Aiken Department of Public Safety says 28-year-old Jaquaez Bibbs of North Augusta was taken into custody July 1 in Richmond County for the May 6 murder of 22-year-old Jalen Jones of Aiken.
Officers were called to the 300 block of Greenwich Drive in Aiken just after 11 am May 6 to a report of a shooting.
That’s where they found Jones’ body in a shed in the backyard of the residence.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables pronounced Jones dead at the scene and said he died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Greenwich Drive Murder Tied to North Augusta Man
The Aiken Department of Public Safety says at midnight July 1, agents with the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Rage Task Force joined deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in arresting Bibbs in Augusta. He was charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime. He’s being held at the Richmond County Detention Center pending an extradition hearing.
Deadly Shooting Under Investigation in Augusta Today
Just after 5:00 this morning, Richmond County deputies were called to a report of a shooting in the 1800 block of Warren Street.
A male was found with at least one gunshot wound.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:11 am.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is in the early stages and no other information is available yet.
