Wagener Road Murder Suspect in Custody; Richmond County Murder Victim Identified
The Wagener Road murder suspect, the focus of a manhunt since Tuesday night, is now in custody.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Jonathan Daquan Staley, was taken into custody at 11:15 pm on Highway 302 near Wagener.
Captain Eric Abdullah says Staley is expected to be charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime in connection with a shooting Tuesday night in the 200 block of Jeffcoat Road in Wagener.
Aiken County Deputies were called to a report of a shooting there and found a victim with a gunshot wound to the head. Coroner Darryl Ables has identified the victim as 53-year-old Timothy Davenport.
Davenport’s body will be sent to Newberry for an autopsy.
Witnesses reported seeing a black male wearing a white tank top and black sweatpants running from the house before deputies arrived.
Witnesses Helped Deputies Find Staley
In a news release, Abdullah said, “Citizens in the area notified deputies of the whereabouts of Staley as he walked along the side of Highway 302. This investigation continues and as any new information becomes available, it will be released.”
Richmond County Shooting Victim Identified
Richmond County Deputies were called to the scene of a shooting late Tuesday night at Tudor Drive and Carp Drive.
A man was found with at least one gunshot wound.
Coroner Mark Bowen says 37-year-old Gregory Dunn of Thomas Lane in Augusta, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t released any information about the shooting yet.
