Man Dragged Columbia County Lieutenant Trying to Get Away
A man dragged a Columbia County Lieutenant about 100 yards while trying to get away from deputies at the Sheriff’s Office today in Appling.
It all started around 2 pm when 26-year-old Bobby Burnett went to the Sheriff’s Office headquarters on County Camp Road for a background check.
Major Steve Morris says in the process, officials discovered Burnett had an active warrant for a probation violation. Authorities confronted Burnett as he was walking to his car.
Morris says that’s when Burnett allegedly dragged Lieutenant Brandon Thacker with his vehicle as he tried to get away.
“Lieutenant Thacker managed to break free from the vehicle. Dispatchers in our Real Time Crime Center alerted deputies as to what just occurred to include vehicle description and direction of travel,” said Morris.
A deputy spotted Burnett’s vehicle on Columbia Road at South Old Belair Road and a brief chase ensued.
The Georgia State Patrol assisted by pitting the vehicle on Warren Road in Richmond County, where Burnett was taken into custody.
