Walmart Might Owe You Money
Walmart might owe you money, if you’ve purchased bagged fruit or items that are priced based on weight.
There’s a $45 million settlement to resolve allegations the retail giant overcharged customers across the country for certain items over the last four years.
In fact, customers could be entitled to as much as $500 as part of the class-action settlement.
Walmart is accused of overcharging for “weighted goods” including meat, poultry, pork and seafood. Also included were select organic oranges, tangerines, grapefruit and navel oranges that were sold in bulk in plastic or mesh bags.
Customers say they were overcharged between October 19, 2018 and January 19 of 2024.
The class action lawsuit, which was filed in 2022, claims that prices on the sold-by-weight merchandise exceeded the actual per unit costs. That resulted in customers paying more than the lowest in-store price for the food items.
Walmart might owe you money, but the company has denied any wrongdoing or liability in the case, but a settlement agreement was recently filed in federal court in Tampa, Florida. A hearing is scheduled June 12 for final approval.
Customers have until June 5 to submit a claim to participate in the settlement. You can do so online at www.walmartweightedgroceriessettlement.com.
