Teen Arrested After Shots Fired Near School Bus Stop in Augusta: Update
A teen was arrested after shots were fired near a school bus stop in Augusta with children nearby this morning.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the corner of Lovers Lane and Sapelo Circle after getting reports that shots were being fired there at 7:50 am.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned a male subject was observed shooting in the area of the bus stop at Lovers Lane and Sapelo Circle, where several children were waiting on the school bus,” according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
This afternoon, investigators say they have charged 17-year-old Katravion Roberson with 4 counts of Aggravated Assault and 1 count of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.
The shots fired near the school bus stop did not result in any injuries being reported. The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is in its early stages and no other information is available yet.
Deadly Shooting Claims Teens Life in Richmond County Monday Night
Deputies were called to the 2000 block of Bolt Drive late Monday night to a report of a shooting there.
When deputies arrived, they found 19-year-old Makel Jones of Bolt Drive with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to Wellstar MCG where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
So far, no suspect information has been released.
There was another shooting earlier in the day Monday at Diamond Lakes Regional Park off Windsor Spring Road. One person, whose name has not been released, was shot around 2:30 pm while activities were underway at the park.
The shooting victim was hospitalized with injuries, but they were not believed to be life-threatening.
There’s been no motive for the shooting and no suspect information has been released.
