Columbia County authorities say 66-year-old Dwayne Reindeaux Carter of Grovetown was killed by a CSX train while on his bicycle.
The tragic accident was on the tracks on Washington Road at Baston Road. Crews were on the scene with the area closed for about four hours.
Authorities say Carter was attempting to cross the tracks and got stuck before being struck by the oncoming train. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The train was blocking the intersection of Riverwatch and Washington Road while emergency crews were on the scene. Traffic was diverted along Washington Road.
