A few more finishing touches and this mural will be finished as the gray part will become blue for the sky. A few more gallons of paint and it will be finished!

Augusta is known for its murals throughout downtown. Many are related to James Brown, which is unique to our city. I was downtown Saturday and noticed a new one was going up at Reynolds and 11th Street. I stopped to look at it and saw a few people painting the side of a building with their newly creative art. It was a group of Augusta University students painting a new downtown mural in Augusta.

First, I saw Augusta in large letters and paint buckets of every color, and I had to find out more.

I spoke to Cyndy Epps, an art professor at Augusta University, and asked her about this project. "It is a student project. We are with Augusta University Department of Art and Design, and we started talking about doing this back in the fall."

Cyndy talked to me about the design as students were busy painting their parts on the massive piece of art.  "We went through a big process and got things approved through the city. And then we started painting last weekend. So, we're just trying to create a mural that connects our campus with downtown."

You've got the arches and fountain from the campus and a fountain from downtown—some local flowers and, of course, the Augusta University mascot, Augustus the Jaguar.

Thanks to Cyndy Epps and the students from Augusta University for this beautiful piece of art for the downtown area of Augusta!
