Over 2 million handheld garment steamers sold at Walmart and on Amazon are being recalled due to a burn hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the recall involves the following brands:

  • Steamfast
  • Vornado
  • Sharper Image

The steamers were manufactured in China and were sold at several popular retail stores, also including Bed, Bath and Beyond.  They were sold from July 2009 through January 2024.

"The recalled garment steamers can expel hot water from the steam nozzle while heating or during use, posing a serious burn hazard to consumers," according to a statement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

So far, Vornado has received over 100 reports of hot water spraying or spitting from the steam nozzle.  Of that number, 23 reported burn injuries.

The recalled products, ranging from $14 to $35,  were sold at various stores and online in the United States and Canada.  The brand name appears on the side of each unit and on a label located on the bottom of the steamer.  The model number also appears on the label.

Model Numbers of the Recalled Steamers:

  • Steamfast model numbers SF-425, SF-435, SF-440, SF-445 and SF-447.
  • Vornado model number VS410
  • Sharper Image model number SI42

The recalled steamers were sold in white, black, light pink, hot pink, sage green, orange, and teal blue colors.

If you have any of the affected products, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission urges you immediately stop using it and contact Vornado for a full refund or free replacement handheld garment steamer, depending on model.
