Aiken County Man Shoots Wife in the Face
More domestic violence in the area this week with the report that an Aiken County man shot his wife in the face Monday night.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a home in the 100 block of Staley Drive in Wagener just after 11 pm. They found the suspect, 41-year-old Christopher Gleaton outside the home. He reportedly ignored deputies commands to put his hands behind his back and asked them to go inside and help his wife.
According to the incident report, “She was sitting on the couch in the living room with the lower part of her jaw hanging on the left side of her face and blood everywhere on the floor.”
The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Her condition wasn’t known.
There were reportedly four juveniles in the home at the time of the incident. Their ages were not given.
Gleaton was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.
Domestic Violence in Evans on Tuesday
A Columbia County man remains behind bars after allegedly hitting his wife in the head with a baseball bat late Tuesday morning at their home in Stratford subdivision off Hardy McManus Road.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says 65-year-old Paul Ashmore called 911 to report he had struck his wife, admitting that he tried to kill her.
“He also held a knife to her before she ran away to a neighbor’s residence,” according to the incident report.
The victim was found at a home on Montrose Place and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities say she has since been released.
Ashmore was taken into custody and remains in the Columbia County Detention Center charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault.
Murder-Suicides in Augusta and Aiken Since Sunday
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says Rebecca Williams died after she was shot by her husband in their home Sunday on Holden Drive. Investigators say Michael Williams then turned the gun on himself. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The following day, Tiffany Britt was shot at the Murphy Express gas station on Richland Avenue in Aiken while she was arguing with her husband, George Britt.
Witnesses said Britt shot himself after shooting his wife. Britt died at the scene. Mrs. Britt was taken to an area hospital where she died a short time later.
Autopsies are being performed on all four murder-suicide victims.
