It's not new information, but our local shelters and rescues are constantly dealing with overcrowding.  There are so many great pets available for adoption at any of our local shelters and with local rescues.  And now that the holidays are here, Augusta Animal Services are hosting another round of Home For The Holidays.

Home For The Holidays

If you remember, back in November, Augusta Animal Services hosted Home For The Holidays for Thanksgiving.  The idea is that people take adoptable pets home over the holiday weekend.  It gives the pets a chance to spend the holidays outside of the shelter and get some socialization.  But it also gives people a chance to get to know the pets, and potentially adopt them.

In fact, if you fall in love with the animal you bring home for the holidays, you don't have to take them back to the shelter! This is such a great initiative to get these wonderful pets a chance to shine.

Christmas And New Year's

So now that Christmas is this weekend, Augusta Animal Services kicked off another Home For The Holidays.  This round will be a little longer than the Thanksgiving weekend.  The idea is to pick up the pet ahead of Christmas and keep them through New Year's Day.

Pick-ups began on December 16th, but will continue until this Friday, December 22nd. Pick-ups are done between 12 noon and 4 p.m. at Augusta Animal Services at 4164 Mack Lane in Augusta.  The pets can be returned between 12 noon and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2nd, or Wednesday, January 3rd.  Although, ideally, you've fallen in love and will have a new fur family member to head into the new year.

There are so many benefits to pet ownership.  Just check out what Augusta Animal Services says:

And remember, when you adopt an animal for a shelter, you're helping make more space for other animals that are in need of rescue too.  You're saving little lives, and adding more joy to your own.  There's nothing like the love of a pet to make your holidays brighter! Just remember, a pet is commitment. Make sure you're ready to care for them for the next 8+ years.  There's nothing worse than knowing a pet got adopted only to be brought back to the shelter later on.

Visit Augusta Animal Services at 4164 Mack Lane in Augusta. Their shelter hours are 12 noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also give them a call to learn more: (706) 790-6836.  Or visit their Facebook page.
