Two Dead in Separate Wrecks in Richmond County Thursday
There were two fatal accidents in Augusta Thursday night, with one involving the death of a bicyclist.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says the victim was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Gordon Highway and Jimmie Dyess Parkway around 8:20 pm. The bicyclist died at the scene, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.
About 30 minutes later, emergency crews were called to Bobby Jones Expressway in the westbound lanes near Wheeler Road where another deadly accident was reported.
Authorities say the driver lost control, veered off the road and struck a pole. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of this morning, names of the accident victims were still being withheld pending notification of family members.
