Former Principal at Stevens Creek Elementary to be Reinstated
Grace Meyer was principal at Stevens Creek Elementary School in Columbia County when parents were suddenly told in early October she was stepping down for a different role within the school system. Dr. Charles Barry O’Neill was named interim principal.
Grace Meyer is Headed Back to Stevens Creek Elementary
Today, the Columbia County School System announced that Meyer will return to her position as principal at Stevens Creek Elementary on January 2, 2024. Officials say the district has made its final determination regarding this employment action. A statement from Dr. Kristen Carroll, Assistant Superintendent for the Columbia County School System, said: “This action is pending a final review as required by the Professional Standards Commision, the regulatory and certification agency for educators.”
O’Neill will continue to serve as interim principal until the end of December.
Why Meyer Left Stevens Creek Elementary in October
Carroll sent a letter to parents of Stevens Creek Elementary School students in early October after Meyer stepped down. It said, “As the principal, she always made it a priority to do what was in the best interest of her students, faculty and the community she served since 2019.”
Carroll explained that school officials were aware that new leadership at the school could cause some level of apprehension, but they assured parents student well-being and achievement would remain a priority.
School district officials have offered no other comment about why Meyer stepped down as principal last month.
